Description | : Wardha, District headquarters,is internationally famous because of the Ashrams at Sevagram and Paunar. The church here is one of the four churches/center handed over to the Diocese of Chanda in its beginningnin 1962.Fr. Eugene Thomas CMI took over as the Priest-in-Charge of Wardha and chaplain of the military camp at Pulgaon in 1963. Since the military school at Pulgaon was entrusted to this station in 1962,the priest began to stay there and he came from there to conduct the Sunday service at Wardha. This practice was abandoned because the school management in Pulgaon was given up in the following year. Fr. Eugene Thomas constructed a presbytery and balbhavan for boys in 1964.The Sisters of St. John the Baptist established their first convent in India here in 1971.
The following religious congregations have started their Convent/Provincial/Formation Houses here: CMI,CMF,SJB,CMC,FCC,MSMI,SD,DM,DST and CSC. New Presbytery building was blessed on 8 September 2016. |
